On 17. and 18. April Disruption Network Lab organised a series of talks centred around Drone Systems and their Strategies. Set up by Tatiana Bazzichelli, Daniela Silvestrin and Kim Voss, the event turned out to be highly informative, giving lots of insight on the various effects of Drone warfare.

The organisers managed to add a very clear narrative to the first day. It starts with a talk by Brandon Bryant, who, a former drone operator, tells about his daily routine, about the killings at 10.000 km distance by simply pulling the trigger, but also about his growing awareness that he was not killing targets, but destroying the lives of individuals.

This personal account is followed by a series of presentations in a panel. Investigative journalist John Goetz develops a near cinematographic insight in one day in the lives of people involved in a drone airstrike and describes places and persons involved in the process.

Chantal Meloni, international law researcher explains the legal difficulties. How can a government justify the killing of a target. How can a government justify the nomination of an individual, and make him a target. What are the mistakes through which innocent citizens get killed.

Marek Tuszynski, activist and tactical tech, illustrates how the identification process works: suspicion arrises from a certain kind of behaviour, a model of behaviour. This can cause that the same person is reported to be killed seven times.

Adrian Shephard attended the conferences, recorded and edited the talks and the questions and answers.

We will broadcast the first day on various hours from Sunday 19.April to Sunday 26.April and will take care that people who live in a different timezone from ours (Rome/Berlin) can listen at a reasonable hour.
