The Rome Connection – Adrian Shephard and Rinus Van Alebeek

Rinus returns from Calabria for a short visit to Berlin. He has been away for six months. Sixty minutes of small and big talk that goes nowhere and of which you will learn nothing. Check our schedule The time indications are BerlinTime World time

Rescue Radio On by Rinus van Alebeek

This show was recorded on a stormy day when cosmic interferences disrupted the regular Radio On program. Rinus climbed up to the roof, adjusted the antenna and went on to rescue our radio. Rescue Radio On features sounds by Tzii and his sci-fi Monolith tape, some Larry Mondello Band strangeness, songs by the Greek band Fyta, but above all a long collage of commercial, found and chanced upon recordings on tape. A selection of these can be heard here Rescue Radio On broadcasts all through January on Sunday 19:00-20:00, Monday…

Rinus van Alebeek – Tapes and Talks from the Mulinen Studio – Space Trip Mantras

Tapes and Talks from the Mulinen Studio, presented by me (Rinus van Alebeek) is made in Il Porticello, a castle on the coast of Capo Vaticano in Calabria. From there it is a forty minutes walk to the post office where I have to collect the post. This time I got a packet covered by black gaffer tape. A little note on the backside of the packet said “I’m really sorry it’s so late, it got stuck here in Berlin with me! Tycho Manbow asked me to send it to…

Rinus van Alebeek – Tapes and (less) Talks from the Mulinen Studio – Elevator for the Death

In the picture, Rinus van Alebeek (me, left with hat and micro-microphone) and Raub Roy in the elevator for the death in the Chapel of the Chimes -Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland. A small part of the recordings you hear in this episode of Tapes and Talks were made there, while I was walking around, reading out the names. This show doesnot offer straight forward location recordings, though there are some (from the Praga neighbourhood in Warsaw, or from around the corner here in Capo Vaticano), I also played parts…

Rinus van Alebeek – Overseas – interview w/ Dmytro Fedorenko, Life in Kiev during Wartime

This is the latest interview with Dmytro Fedorenko. We talked with him for the first time at the beginning of the year 2014 when big black smoke was rising up from the Maidan square. It was not our last interview. Dmytro was active during the fights, and saw the victims of the February killings by the Janukovich snipers at the distance of his hand. We spoke with him when Crimea was annexed and when war broke out in the east of Ukraine. We heard him after the downing of MH17….

Rinus van Alebeek -Overseas- interviews w/Dinah Bird and Barbara Lazara, Music by Larry Mondello Band

In the second episode of -Overseas- I talk with Dinah Bird about her release on Gruenrekorder, called A Box of 78s. It is basically a story about a box that was bought some hundred years ago. The box contained records, 78rpm records and the first thirty years of its existence it was in use on Salt Spring Island, just of the coast from Vancouver. Dinah went there, with the box and a portable gramophone player. She came back with a lot of sounds and a couple of stories. Some of…

Rinus van Alebeek – Tapes and Talks Volume 4

In volume 4 of the T&T show I play a lot of tapes and hardly say a word. You will hear longer or shorter bits from the Fyta and Uské Orchestra split tape released by noise-below; Wise words from The Teachings of Zen Master Dogen, dREàgänn’s Undine (released by Lonktaar). From the Montreal Tape Run (staaltape/crustacés tapes) I play Martin Tetréault and Nicolas Dion. Split – a tape released by galerie West, Den Haag, has Gregory Whitehead and Jack Sutton on it; you hear them. An issue of Glissando was…

Tapes and Talks from the Mulinen Studio Vol 1-3 by Rinus van Alebeek

Now that I am finally settled in the coastal area of Calabria, I have started a new series of programs of which three are now rotating in the schedule. Each program is one hour long. I play tapes that were sent to me by friends. I give information, sometimes I make up a story. In the first volume of the show you will hear Ben Roberts and his eclectiktronik label. The Shitty Listener aka Jason Honea and Ginger Miles. In the second volume there are The Herd of the Ether…

Rinus in the Mulinen Studio #1

A show produced at an old wooden table in the heart of the Porticello Castle on the shores of the Liparian Sea. I (=Rinus van Alebeek) used exclusively tape players. The show opens with a long run of the tape EP-1 by EclectikTronik (Ben Roberts.) An other tape played in the process is by The Shitty Listener (Jason Honea). For the rest of the one hour show I mix own recordings (some done on a winter’s day at Tempelhof, an other one in the highest sphere up on Teufelsberg) (others…
