Radio On Brandstifter – Interview

On one of those normal anonymous mid-winter days in Berlin, when half the world is coughing and the other half is sneezing, on a day that the sun peeked through the clouds, and the U-Bahn trains were full of people who didn’t know where to go, and thus ended up travelling between stations, on such a mid-winter day that makes you think and hope that springtime is not far away, and that soon the rents might go down again, and Berlin will return to being a dirty poor town, without…

Tape Review Show with cassettes by Erik Levander and I Placca

The procedure in the Tape Review Show is very simple. One side of a tape release will be played in its full length. The tape itself and the art work will be described; artist name and label mentioned as well. Once the tape is finished Adrian Shephard and yours sincerely (=Rinus Van Alebeek) might discuss the tape or go into stories and events, obviously inspired by listening to the sounds. The first broadcast of the Tape Review Shows are always unnanounced and live from the Radio On studio in Berlin….

Tape Review Show – Special on Tape label Tutore Burlato (parts 1 & 2)

I first heard about Ezio Piermattei through a review by Ed Pinsent in his Sound Projector. He wrote about one of his works: “created from “voice, objects, instruments, tapes, electronics, etc.” this is a highly perplexing and unfathomable trawl through sound-episodes of great absurdity and surprise…we never really understand what we’re hearing, how it’s made, or what it means, but it’s impossible to stop listening…here…” Since I trust Ed’s taste and insight I decided to get in touch with Ezio. After an exchange of works, my curiousity grew when I…

Rinus van Alebeek – Tapes and Talks Volume 4

In volume 4 of the T&T show I play a lot of tapes and hardly say a word. You will hear longer or shorter bits from the Fyta and Uské Orchestra split tape released by noise-below; Wise words from The Teachings of Zen Master Dogen, dREàgänn’s Undine (released by Lonktaar). From the Montreal Tape Run (staaltape/crustacés tapes) I play Martin Tetréault and Nicolas Dion. Split – a tape released by galerie West, Den Haag, has Gregory Whitehead and Jack Sutton on it; you hear them. An issue of Glissando was…

Rinus – The Scottish Independence Referendum Program (inside the program: Ivor Cutler and Scottish Friends)

On the day of the Scottish Referendum, well, the evening of it, around the hour that the poll stations closed, I (=Rinus van Alebeek) did a live program from Capo Vaticano, Calabria where I reside at the moment. The program starts with a spoken introduction, but soon gets sabotaged by all kinds of crackles and silences which destroy my message completely. What follows is a long mix of music from cassette tapes I received as a present or as trade. You will hear the works, and not specifically in this…
